“I cannot thank Emily enough for all her support & treatment pre & post pregnancy. I did Pilates all throughout my pregnancy right up until 40 weeks & was back there after 6 weeks of my son being born. In between I had osteo sessions to help when the little man wanted to try out not so nice positions in my belly. My husband & I are truly grateful for all that you do & continue to do for us.  Thanks again” – Mary Centenera

I love treating women through Pregnancy.  For me, it is the most joy that I can get from being an Osteopath.

Yes as Osteopaths we can offer relief from pain and assist with the various changes that pregnancy puts a female body through – but it is more about the physical and spiritual journey that I am privileged to share with patients.

Sometimes the journey is not so easy.  If someone has been trying for a while with no success, or the day when I am the first person to be told… Either way sharing the emotion is something very special that I hold close to my heart.  The beautiful part of it is that it is a new chapter, and often for first time Mum’s it can be very daunting as to what advice to take.  Having the ability to assist with common complaints that patients often think are just a “part of being pregnant” is a delight in our day.

Treatment during pregnancy is very gentle as the body is in a greater state of response due to hormonal changes.  I have women coming in for treatments right up until their due date as we can perform treatments seated or lying on their side.  Here is where Osteopathy and our other services such as Clinical Pilates can help during pregnancy.

PREGNANCY affects the body in numerous ways, and can cause changes to the patterns of weight bearing around the pelvic region.  At Doncaster Osteopathic Clinic & Wellness Centre, we can assist women to adjust to these changes with comfort and ease through-out this important time.

Osteopathy can assist in keeping your mobile throughout your pregnancy and help reduce any pelvic, back, shoulder and neck pain – as well as assisting stress relief.

To accommodate your growing baby, your body will undergo enormous changes that affect your centre of gravy and ligament tone. The goal of treatment is to assist this natural process, therefore maximizing your body’s ability to adjust and cope with the demands of pregnancy and reduce your pain and discomfort.

During pregnancy Clinical Pilates is a fantastic way to keep mobile through your spine, build pelvic floor and core strength, as well as concentrated breathing practice.  We offer small group classes, or private sessions, both to ensure that you are continuing to improve your technique and strength every week under the guidance of our Instructors.

I believe that pre-natal Yoga is another important part of the spiritual component of the journey.  Time out to breathe, ‘un-plug’ from normal life, and re-charge your batteries during pregnancy is essential – even more so when you have another toddler that you are chasing after.  Honour your body and it will thank you for it.
